Administrator Jovita Carranza, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, visited local small businesses in the Upstate this morning.

According to a press release, the businesses she visited have benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

"Diversified Systems and Materials Management are just two companies that exemplify what the Paycheck Protection Program enabled them to do which was to protect their employee base, maybe not 100% but definitely a significant number, protect their wages, and then sustain their business," Carranza said.

Austin Jones, president of Materials Management and co-founder of Daedalus Industrial, said the PPP and the 504 Debt Forgiveness made a huge difference in his company.

"The PP allowed me to keep everybody working without having to even consider sending them home," Jones said.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new Community Works Women’s Business Center (WBC) on W. Antrim Drive is also a part of Carranza's visit to the Palmetto State.

The press release said, "The new WBC will provide entrepreneurs with greater access to the training and technical assistance services they need to sustain and grow their businesses, as well as create and retain jobs, especially as the community turns to recover from the coronavirus pandemic and reopening. The SBA WBCs are a national network of more than 100 centers that offer one-on-one counseling, training, networking, workshops, technical assistance and mentoring to women entrepreneurs on numerous business development topics, including business startup, financial management, marketing and procurement."
